I usually use a splitting block, which I also recommend most of the time. But with these heavier logs I prefere to process them on the ground, I know it can hurt my back a little in the long run, but so do lifting 200lbs logs….;-)
Read my info about the video up in the right corner, theree is one differens explained…..narrower head edge but slightly thicker, makes splitting axe panetrate deeper and that way split easier
you will beat any log splitter, well maybe on a nice piece of log like that, but when u have one of those old knotty pieces of oak… ???
When I have these rounds stacked up on the ground….nothing can stop me…the only “terminal time” I put in is for the bungee…..
Great Idea! Why didnt i ever think of that?
You wernt lazy enuff!! Like I was….hahahh
Yeah like anything in life you attempt to make easier, someone will have a comment. I tried your bungee and string method on some doug fir and it split all at once without having to bend over several times to pick up the wood.Great idea…nice maul you are using also.
That’s a great tip. It will make my job easier and faster and save me from chasing wood that goes all over. Thanks
splitting is probably one of the best woodsman things to do… what ax is that? I know its a fisk, but what kind
Fiskars Super Splitter, 4 1/4# head and 28″ handle….
I use the same setup but with a small chain and bungee. I can hook the bungee in any of the links for different size logs. Hope I can split like that when I’m that age…lol
@OPEJunkie what age??? LOL… was 55 at that video….and I tell you, i am in horrible shape…..I am lucky to have figured the technique out….LOL….It is ALL about technique and the FISKARS SUPER SPLITTER 4 1/4 lbs……..
lol I’m 35 and I can’t even walk fast for long without getting winded….I’m 193lbs You look pro in the video…
well, I started using the chain because that’s all I had at the time
Useful video. Log splitters are obviously useful for splitting firewood, that’s a given but there are many more uses.
