Many people make the mistake of stacking their firewood in a pile on the ground or concrete floor. This leads to moist or wet wood, a rotted firewood supply, less heat-efficient firewood, more smoky firewood, and mold, as well as rodent, insect, and termite infestation.
To avoid all these problems, firewood should be stacked so that air can travel around the logs. The best way to achieve this is to keep your firewood high and dry on a log rack. The skillful design of a well-built rack can protect your logs from bugs, moisture, and rot, and keep it neatly organized at the same time.

There are many different types of racks to choose from. Constructed from all kinds of materials, ranging from wood to canvas to metal, log racks come in a multitude of designs, shapes, and sizes. Firewood racks can be as simple or as elegant as you want.
There are basically two different types of racks, indoor and outdoor. Generally speaking, indoor racks are smaller and sometimes more ornate than outdoor racks. They are meant to hold less firewood, and are not required to withstand the elements of Mother Nature, so they can be constructed of different materials.

Indoor firewood racks are useful, because they keep logs at hand, so you don’t have to run out in the cold each time you need more firewood. They are often designed to be big enough to hold approximately 10-30 pieces of wood. For example, you can purchase a 40 inch log hoop made of tubular steel which is meant simply to hold your firewood. Or you can purchase a firewood log holder made of tubular steel, with a canvas carrier. This unit allows you to carry your firewood and store it in the same holder.

Other indoor log rack materials include such things as stainless steel, leather, wood, and wrought iron.

Outdoor log racks are usually larger than their indoor counterparts, simply because they are expected to hold more firewood. They come in a variety of sizes. Though they vary, a typical outdoor firewood rack is anywhere from 4 feet long to 8 feet long, a few going as long as 16 feet! Some outdoor racks can adjust in length
to provide storage for anywhere from 1/8 to over a cord of firewood. Outside log racks will hold the bulk of your firewood for the season.
Since outdoor log racks have to withstand some of the nastiest weather imaginable, they are usually constructed from 1-1/4″ to 1-1/2″ diameter heavy duty steel with a black weatherproof powder-coat finish. The tubing material is lightweight but very sturdy, and is generally powder-coated to make it rust-resistant for longevity.

Many units come with a canvas waterproof cover.
Some include end brackets made from heavy gauge tubular steel to hold it securely in place if necessary.

You will find that many log racks can be used either indoors or outdoors.

When purchasing a log rack,
assembly is usually required. No worries though, because they are easy to assemble and can be ready to use in a flash. Since they are equally easy to disassemble, they can be just as easily put away for summer storage.
It’s okay if you didn’t find what you want on this website, because there are over 350 log racks at Amazon.com. Take a look!
A beautiful wood burning fire in your fireplace or glass-front wood stove takes the chill out of the air and provides the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing and enjoyable time with family and friends. Using firewood is a great way to conserve energy, cut down on your heating costs, and keep you and your family warm.
A quality firewood log rack is constructed using steel tubing, precision drilled holes, arc welded end sections, stainless steel nuts and bolts, a simple bolt together design, and a durable black, textured powder coat finish. This makes them so long lasting that you won’t have to buy a new one year after year. Of course, you may buy one as a gift for that hard-to-buy-for friend, or family member.
A log rack cover is important to keep the rain, ice, and snow off your firewood. Wet firewood doesn’t burn well, so keep it covered and dry.

My family has a summer home and we have always had problems there keeping our firewood dry. One of those adjustable outdoor log racks are exactly what we need. I’ll be back!

yes firewood will remain dry and it will burn smoothly if you will use these racks.
Log racks seem to have taken the place of the good old fashioned wood box. My brothers job every day was to make sure the wood box was always full for our old slow combustion stove. My other brothers job was supposed to be to get the sticks and bark in for the open fire in winter but he wasn’t always as reliable as we all wished!
My job was to get the cow and calf in each night and to feed the chooks (chickens) Argh, sweet memories of childhood!
